Coffee Table Trays: Get the Look You Love!

It’s 9pm on Saturday night. You’ve got a plan to create a beautiful coffee table tray so you log on to Pinterest for ideas.

SOOO much inspiration. SO MUCH GOOD STUFF!

And you make a decision. A hard and fast resolution. You’re going to do some coffee table styling at your place and it’s going to be MAGNIFICENT.

But Monday comes. And work takes over. There’s cooking. And cleaning. And OTHER STUFF. And the coffee table dream gets sucked into oblivion, never to be seen again.

It’s a sad tale, so often repeated.

But! (and here’s the kicker),

IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!

COFFEE TABLE DREAMS DO COME TRUE!

You CAN have a gorgeous coffee table that beautifies your home and dazzles your visitors! Just start with a tray you love and build a beautiful vignette using a few simple accessories.

Let me show you how.

Coffee Table Tray #1: The Rustic Wooden Tray

The simple things in life are often the best. This coffee table tray only holds a couple of books and pot plants, but the effect is mesmerising. It’s a modern rustic look that pairs beautifully with farmhouse décor.

To create a rustic vignette, look for natural tones, fresh greenery, and vintage items with an aged patina.

Our Tip:

Even though they’re super-gorgeous, snowballs and other types of flowering plants (like the ones shown above) are generally meant for outdoors. If you’re looking for something hardy and long-lasting, choose a potted plant that’s bred for indoors, or replicate the look with faux greenery.

Coffee Table Tray #2: The Colourful Black Tray

When you think of black coffee table trays, you often think of ornate interiors with lots of bling and sparkles. But a black coffee table tray also works in a relaxed home with cheery accents. In this example from Amanda Louise Interiors, a black tray is the perfect background for colourful coasters, books, and candles.

The shine on this tray reflects the light, and some of the ‘heaviness’ of the black has been removed by the golden band around the outside. If you have a tray that’s completely black but you want to keep it light and cheerful, try some gold leaf, or spray the outside with a can of gold coloured paint.

Coffee Table Tray #3: The Ravishing Rattan Tray

Looking for a versatile coffee table tray that’s made from natural materials? A rattan tray could be your answer.

Rattan is a type of palm tree grown in Southeast Asia, and it’s often used to make furniture and decorative accents like serving trays. Even though rattan often conjures up images of grand veranda rooms in tropical places like Singapore (think of the Raffles Hotel), it’s perfect for a wide range of casual decorating styles including country and coastal design.

Take it Home!

In the image above, a rattan tray is paired with other natural elements including seashells, a wooden bowl, and a few sprigs of greenery. The antique bottle adds a third major item to the tray, creating visual interest and design harmony. On a large rattan tray, you could add a few extras like candles or glass fishing floats.
