Two Minute Afternoon Tea (just a little bit fancy)

Ahhh, Afternoon Tea. Scones and cream, fancy pastries, little sandwiches with the crusts cut off. Does life get any better?

According to Signature Luxury Travel, one of the best places in the world to enjoy a spot of Afternoon Tea is Claridge’s hotel in London. “Around you is the splendour of Thierry Despont’s gorgeous foyer, inspired by the 1930s heydey of Art Deco” they say, and “these classic-luxe surroundings mesh perfectly with a timeless menu of finger sandwiches, warm scones and sweet pastries” (seriously, this writer should be a poet). Claridge’s even has a ‘tea connoisseur’. The menu includes “the rare Malawi Antler, which is made from the shoots of the tea plant and cannot be found anywhere else in the UK; and an Earl Grey from Tregothnan, a walled tea garden in Cornwall that has been producing beautiful teas since the 14th century”. A 14th century walled tea garden? STOP IT! Claridge’s Afternoon Tea, you’re going straight to the Bucket List.

So, anyhoo. Reality Check. It’s Saturday afternoon. You’re scrounging around in the pantry for something sweet and the only thing looking back at you is a half-eaten Kit Kat. Nothing against Kit Kat’s, but a Kit Kat ain’t going to cut it. So… how about a super-fast, super-tasty Afternoon Tea instead? Yes? Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Grab your ingredients - a pack of pikelets, a jar of thickened cream (the whipping type), and a jar of your favourite jam.

Step 2: Whip the cream and set it aside. Arrange the pikelets on a tray or plate (something fancy of course), and spread the tops with jam.

Step 3: Put a generous dollop of cream on each pikelet and garnish them with a little berry.

Step 4: Make a pot of tea (the best you’ve got), and carry everything out to the lounge lizards, cheered on by cries of “ooooooo” and “ahhhh”.

VOILA! Two Minute Afternoon Tea.

Step aside Claridge’s. There’s a new Afternoon Tea in town.
